A panel of experts, led by host Richard Muller, will look at health issues, including nursing homes on the reservations. For years, the American Indian reservations in South Dakota have complained about a shortage of nursing home facilities. During the 2003 South Dakota Legislative Session, a bill was passed that would allow for the construction of one nursing home on one reservation. Is it enough? A large number of American Indians are reaching the age where constant care is an issue. And, according to a recent Associated Press article, the number of HIV cases on our reservations is growing. Are there enough facilities and supplies on reservations to support those with a health care crisis?
