Feathered Tourists

Dakota Life - 10/03/2002

For nearly 100 years, the US Fish and Wildlife Service has cared for migratory birds and other wildlife across the nation. In this segment, we visit three of South Dakota's eight refuges. At the LaCreek refuge near Martin, we take viewers to pelican Island to see the nesting grounds of over 3000 pelicans. We visit the Carl Mundt Refuge near Ft. Randall which is the first refuge in the country dedicated to preservation of the Bald Eagle, and to the lake Andes refuge which is geared toward migratory waterfowl. More information -
