In this edition of Dakota Life:

"Casting the Pettigrew Bronze." How an artist's clay sculpture becomes a bronze statue. Artist Darwin Wolf's sculpture honors R.L. Pettigrew, a Sioux Falls founding father and South Dakota's first U.S. Senator.

"Freeman's Schmeckfest." This annual fundraiser for Freeman Academy celebrates the heritage (and food) of the Mennonite Germans from Russia who settled the area in the late 19th century. The event started in 1959 and continues to draw large crowds and heartfelt community support.

"The Draw of Archery." Archery is the fastest-growing shooting sport and hunting sport in South Dakota. The National Archery in the Schools program, now operating in 200 state schools, promotes youth archery and offers the chance for target archery competition. In Yankton, the National Field Archery Association and an Easton Sports Development Foundation for Archery Excellence promote all kinds of archery for all kinds of people - including those interested in Olympic competiion.
